Reducing and Recycling Packaging

Reducing and Recycling Packaging

By running an online shop we have become acutely aware of the amount of packaging that we handle. Given the nature of online shopping, using packaging is unavoidable, as illustrated by an article by the Independent in 2022 which suggests the average Briton has 200 parcels delivered every year. This highlights the importance of trying to reuse packaging where possible, whilst also ensuring items are packaged safely for dispatch.

Therefore, we aim to re-use packaging where possible. The most common way we can do this is by making use of boxes that have previously been used yet still offer sufficient support and protection for delivering your items safely. We actively try to source boxes destined for landfill or being ripped up and recycled!

This can mean your deliveries arrive with writing or branding on relating to your order (a recent favourite is boxes with 'Yorkshire Puddings' on the side!). Similarly, we try and ensure internal packaging is recycled (or can be easily recycled) and try to avoid the usage of bubble wrap and similar plastic protection.

When you receive your parcel why not try and reuse the box yourself? Look out for future blog posts where we further discuss the environmental benefits of reusing packaging and ways in which the little ones in your life can use packaging for crafting fun!
